Former Fuyao Glass Employees Share Experiences of Difficult Working Conditions
In Dayton, Ohio, former employees of Fuyao Glass America Inc., a Chinese-linked glass manufacturer, gathered to share their challenging experiences. Fuyao operates in a former General Motors plant in Ohio, and the gathering attracted the attention of a prominent U.S. congressman, who listened to accounts of difficult working conditions.
Tiffany Moore, a former employee with three years of experience at the factory, described the working environment as intolerable. She said, “The heat in there is unbearable; they don’t care.” Her remarks were part of a gathering at the International Union of Electrical Workers, attended by Representative Ro Khanna, D-Calif.
Rep. Ro Khanna, a ranking member on the House Select Subcommittee on the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), visited Dayton to conduct oversight on Fuyao Glass America Inc. Khanna had previously requested information from Fuyao regarding wage suppression, worker conditions, and U.S. law violations. However, Fuyao responded with only limited information that did not address the committee’s questions.
Khanna expressed concern over Fuyao’s lack of transparency. He mentioned ongoing federal investigations and media reports that suggest there might be more issues at the company than already revealed.
The roundtable also featured Demetria Hodges, who worked at Fuyao for five years. Hodges claimed the company resisted unionization efforts by using intimidation and offering temporary pay raises.
Another former worker, Darrell, shared a tragic incident where an employee, Ricky Patterson, died in a workplace accident. Darrell expressed disbelief over the company’s decision to continue operations immediately after the incident.
