However, her appearance drew criticism from podcast hosts Charlotte Wilder and Madeline Hill on ‘The Sports Gossip Show.’ They questioned her choice of sitting alongside Pat McAfee. The podcast, once distributed by The Athletic, has been known for its critical stance on sports figures such as Riley Gaines and Sophie Cunningham.

Pat McAfee, in 2024, called Caitlin a ‘white b—,’ said Wilder during their episode, opting not to provide the full context.

McAfee’s comment was made in defense of Clark, emphasizing her contribution to the WNBA. He later apologized, stating that his words were meant as a compliment and that Clark accepted the apology.

Wilder questioned why Clark shared the stage with McAfee despite the apology and her apparent comfort with him. Wilder’s expectation for Clark to repeatedly address issues she’s already condemned seems excessive. Clark has publicly denounced racism on multiple occasions.

Clark’s influence in the WNBA has been significant, driving viewership for Fever games and contributing to higher player salaries. Despite her success, Wilder suggested Clark needs to improve her public relations, an opinion many find baseless given Clark’s prominent sponsorship deals and growing popularity.

In contrast to ‘The Sports Gossip Show,’ which averages a modest YouTube viewership, Clark’s appearance on ‘GameDay’ attracted millions of viewers, illustrating her broad appeal.
