Ben Affleck Discusses Parenting and His Son’s Interest in Luxury Items

Ben Affleck recently shared insights into parenting during a podcast appearance with his co-star Kerry Washington. Affleck’s son, Samuel, appears to have inherited an inclination for luxury items, including Lamborghinis.

Samuel’s Affinity for Luxury

During the podcast, Affleck mentioned that Samuel, 14, has shown an interest in extravagant goods. This draws a contrast with Affleck’s older children, Violet, 20, and Fin, 17, who tend to avoid luxurious desires.

“I see my son now, you know, and he’s a lot like me,” Affleck commented. “And it makes me realize — because my older two ones — they’re kind of spoiled me because they’re like, ‘No, we don’t want this. We don’t want that.’ They’re like, aversive.”

This admission came after Samuel requested that Affleck buy him a Lamborghini, which the actor amusingly rejected.

A Past Mishap with a Lamborghini

Samuel’s fascination with Lamborghinis dates back to June 2022 when an incident occurred at a luxury car dealership. While visiting 777 Exotics in Los Angeles with Affleck and Jennifer Lopez, Samuel accidentally reversed a yellow Lamborghini SUV into a BMW. Thankfully, there was no damage.

Affleck expressed disbelief at Samuel’s suggestion, laughing as he recounted, “What? A Lambo? Are you crazy? Am I going to be an eccentric person in a yellow Lamborghini driving around like at the club?” despite Samuel’s insistence.

Samuel’s Interest in High-Priced Sneakers

Lamborghinis aren’t the only luxury items that have caught Samuel’s attention. In March 2025, a video captured a moment when Samuel admired a pair of Dior x Nike Air Jordan 1 sneakers, priced at $6,000. Affleck humorously reminded Samuel of the effort required to afford such items, stating, “That’s a lot of lawns you gotta mow.”

Teaching the Value of Hard Work

Affleck has openly discussed his approach to parenting, emphasizing the importance of his children earning what they desire. He aims for his children to understand the value of hard work and independence rather than relying on their parents’ success.

While Affleck’s Hollywood success doesn’t impress his children, his viral moment with Dunkin’ Donuts did. In December 2020, pictures of Affleck carrying Dunkin’ iced coffee went viral, creating a meme beloved by social media users.

Affleck reflected on this during an interview, noting that his children found him relevant due to this meme rather than his film successes. “The most cool thing I’ve ever done, in my kids’ eyes, is, like, become a meme,” he joked.
