Daughter’s Financial Struggle: Paying Half Boyfriend’s Rent While Living at Home
Dear Eric:
My daughter, who is 30 years old, is in a committed relationship with her boyfriend, who is 31. They have been together for over six years. They initially shared an apartment, but my daughter faced job search challenges in the city where they resided. As a result, she returned to live at home with me.
Despite residing with me for the last 18 months, my daughter still contributes to half of her boyfriend’s rent. This situation has impacted her ability to aid me with household expenses.
Her financial commitment to her boyfriend’s rent leaves her unable to assist with our family’s bills, although she has a place here. She seems to be grappling with the balance between responsibilities in her relationship and contributing to our household.
