A tragedy unfolded in Texas when a 17-year-old, Austin Metcalf, was fatally stabbed during a high school track meet. His grieving father, Jeff Metcalf, shared his pain, expressing that his life is ‘destroyed’ by the loss.
Austin, a junior at Memorial High School in Frisco, was allegedly stabbed by 17-year-old Karmelo Anthony, a student from another school. The incident began as a seating dispute while teams awaited the start of the competition.
“My son is gone, and he’ll never come home again,” Jeff Metcalf stated on “America Reports.” “Austin was the light of my life.”
Austin died in the arms of his twin brother, Hunter, who tried in vain to save him. Jeff mentioned the inseparable bond between his sons and his commitment to focus on Hunter’s well-being.
The Metcalf family urges the public to resist drawing racial or political conclusions from the tragedy. Jeff Metcalf emphasized the importance of seeing this as a case of personal tragedy rather than a political issue.
“This is a human being thing. This person made a bad choice and affected both his family and my family forever,” Jeff added.
Remembered as an honor student and talented athlete, Austin dreamed of playing college football. He maintained a 3.97 GPA and attended multiple football camps. His positive spirit and compassionate nature left a lasting impression.
A vigil at the family’s church honored Austin, indicating the community’s support and shared grief. Jeff Metcalf credits his faith for helping him cope with the loss and has chosen a path of forgiveness.
“Forgiveness is not for him. The forgiveness is for me so I can have peace,” he stated.
Before the incident, the father and his sons had spent a cherished weekend hunting. Jeff recalled their final conversation, where Austin offered to help with chores, ending with “I love you, Dad.” These were the last words exchanged.
The suspect, associated with Frisco Centennial High School, now faces murder charges. The community remains in shock, grappling with the immense loss and the ramifications of this act of violence.
