Patrick Mahomes, the star quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs, has secured a substantial contract extension. The team added two years to his existing NFL contract, valued at $239.05 million, bringing the total value to an impressive $504.75 million through the 2033 season.

The structure of the deal ensures that all $504.75 million will eventually be fully guaranteed. With incentives and escalators, the total amount could potentially rise to $522.25 million. This deal means Mahomes will earn over half a billion dollars, regardless of future play.

Starting in 2027, when the new terms commence, Mahomes will earn an average of $64 million per year, setting a new NFL record for annual salary. Though these figures are staggering, the renegotiation wasn’t unexpected. Mahomes restructured his contract in September 2023, with both sides planning to revisit terms after 2026.
