Golf legend Phil Mickelson has parted ways with The Farms Golf Club in Southern California due to allegations of inappropriate behavior. Reports indicate that Mickelson, aged 55, is no longer welcome at the club where he has been a longtime member. The allegations involve ‘inappropriate contact’ with a female staff member at the club earlier this year.
Sources have revealed that Mickelson approached a female employee in the clubhouse, leading to claims of nonconsensual contact. The employee, who rejected Mickelson’s advances, reported the incident to her superiors. Consequently, Mickelson was confronted about the accusation while on the golf course and was asked to leave. The club confirmed to NBC News that Mickelson is not a member anymore but refrained from naming him explicitly.
A statement from the club emphasized that they provided immediate support to the staff member, conducted a comprehensive independent investigation, and took decisive action. The Farms Golf Club is located in Rancho Santa Fe, roughly 25 miles northeast of San Diego.
While Mickelson’s representative did not respond to NBC News’ request for comment, an attorney representing Mickelson denied the allegations. The attorney claimed that video evidence contradicts the accusations and labeled the claims as misinformation. Mickelson’s attention is currently on a private family health issue, according to his attorney.
A spokesperson for Mickelson mentioned that any misunderstandings have been resolved, and Mickelson remains focused on family matters, which have also impacted his professional golf career. In April, he announced a break from competition to address a family health issue.
Mickelson, a married father of three and a six-time major champion, has faced controversy in the past. Notably, he was involved with the Saudi-backed LIV Golf series.
