Authorities in Hamden, Ohio have removed 16 children from a dilapidated rural home. The children were confined to a single room for much of the past four years. They were living in appalling conditions.
The rescue operation led to the arrest of four adults. The scene at the home was one of disarray. Debris littered the front lawn and was strewn throughout the interior of the house.
A series of photos captured by AP photographer Carolyn Kaster reveal the disturbing state of the property. They show debris inside the home, and a cat peering out from a side door opening. A bowl of dog food sat on the side porch as evidence of neglect.
Items like a bench and a gas can were visible beyond police tape. Authorities marked off the area where they carried out the operation. Inside the house, items such as a high chair and various household objects could be seen amid the chaos.
The Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail released booking photos of the four adults arrested. The images were undated, showing them identified as Gary Siders Sr., Christine Siders, Elizabeth Siders, and Gary Siders Jr.
A broken window reveals a hanging light fixture inside the home. The scene is surrounded by police tape, marking the boundary of the investigation site.
