Vice President JD Vance revealed details about President Donald Trump’s strict dress code policies for Cabinet members during a discussion on the “Hang Out with Sean Hannity” podcast. Vance explained that Trump’s rules, such as disliking brown shoes, are grounded in the belief that public officials should respect the institutions they serve through their attire.
“The president has a certain sense that you ought to respect the place, you ought to respect the institution, respect the office. And one of the ways you do that is by dressing like a normal person,” Vance stated.
President Trump is known for consistently wearing a navy suit, black shoes, and a solid tie. Vance shared that Trump often advises his team to display professionalism with their dress, contrasting with some modern-day politicians’ styles. Trump even occasionally buys new shoes for officials if needed.
Vance also recounted an incident involving Ukrainian President Zelenskyy, who was questioned about not wearing a suit during a meeting at the Oval Office. At a subsequent White House meeting, Zelenskyy wore more formal attire. Trump humorously acknowledged the change, further highlighting the emphasis on professional dress.
In another instance, Vance recalled Trump commenting on his son Don Jr.’s attire during a 9/11 memorial, emphasizing the significance of traditional attire. “They’re reading out the names… the president turns around and looks at Don Jr. And Don has like, a spread collar on. And the president’s like, ‘Oh, that’s a pretty wide collar there, Don,'” Vance explained.
Through these anecdotes, it’s clear that Trump maintains a particular standard for professional dress among his team, highlighting his view on honoring public institutions through appearance.
