Kim Mathers Jailed for Violating Bond Conditions
Kim Mathers, aged 51, from Chesterfield Township, was jailed Thursday by a district court judge for repeated violations of drug and alcohol testing requirements. Shortly after Judge William Hackel approved a prosecutor’s request to revoke her bonds in three different cases, Mathers asked her attorney loudly, “How long am I going to be in there?”
Judge Hackel of the 42-II District Court in New Baltimore stated Mathers could be released to an in-patient treatment facility. Assistant Macomb Prosecutor Joseph McCarthy noted that the judge had been encouraging Mathers for months to enroll in a treatment program since her second charge was filed in May. McCarthy emphasized, “She’s failed to do that.”
McCarthy expressed significant concern over the nature of Mathers’ offenses and repeated violations. “She poses a risk to herself and to our community. I would ask she be immediately remanded to jail today,” McCarthy added. Kim Mathers’ attorney, Camilla Barkovic, disagreed with the prosecutor’s assertions but did not dispute Mathers’ numerous bond violations.
Jeremy Stradley of EMS Testing and Freedom Bail Bonds was present to testify about the test results but was not required due to an agreement from Barkovic. Details of the violations were not disclosed due to Barkovic’s stipulation.
Following the hearing, Barkovic described Mathers as “a wonderful young woman” and suggested she was being unfairly targeted by the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office.
Judge Hackel proceeded to revoke Mathers’ bonds, totaling $25,000. Mathers, the ex-wife of renowned rapper Eminem, has faced multiple legal issues since February when she was first arrested for drunk driving. She was rearrested for drunk driving in May, just two days after entering a plea for the initial offense. A bench warrant was issued in June after she failed to attend a court hearing. On July 11, Mathers was hospitalized after passing out in her home due to a reported hemorrhage or laceration. During this incident, she allegedly resisted arrest and kicked a police officer, resulting in felony charges.
Mathers has a probable cause conference scheduled for September 3 concerning these charges. On Thursday, she was meant to be sentenced for her no contest plea on May 11 for operating while impaired and failing to report an accident related to a February 16 hit-and-run incident. This involved impaired driving with children in her SUV. Mathers’ vehicle had struck a parked Dodge Ram pickup truck.
Mathers also faced a pretrial for her second recent drunk driving incident. She is charged with felony drunk driving as a third offense after she crashed into a Jeep Cherokee on May 13 while driving a 2026 Kia in Chesterfield Township. Additionally, she was to attend a show-cause hearing concerning her bond violations.
