A police department in Florida has gained significant attention with a social media campaign designed to enhance recruitment and strengthen connections with the local community. Members of the Ocala Police Department discussed this impactful online initiative on “Fox & Friends Weekend.” The campaign, which emphasizes the human side of officers, has garnered millions of views.
Officer Sean Price highlighted the role of social media in changing perceptions. “Social media allows us to show the positive aspects of our department,” he noted. “We can showcase our personalities beyond the serious nature of our work.”
Recently, the department shared a video in their “We Do” campaign, set to Usher’s song “Daddy’s Home.” The video humorously depicts officers in familiar dating scenarios while performing their duties. It asks, “Does he open your door?” showing an officer helping someone into a patrol car. Other scenarios query, “Does he listen to you?” and “Does he answer your call?” highlighting officers taking statements and responding to emergencies. The answer to each is “We do.”
The video, which has over 19 million views on Facebook, serves to humanize officers and shows their commitment to safety. Corporal Alexandria Blackman shared that the feedback has been positive. “It’s a way for us to connect with the community and display a lighter side,” she said.
Officer Price expressed hope that the positive reception could lead to increased applications. He remarked, “With the engagement we’ve seen, I expect more interest in joining the force soon.”
Officer Clayton Brown encouraged potential recruits to reflect on their motivation. “You need a strong reason to join, as you’ll face challenging situations,” he advised. “If your goal is to support the community during tough times and appreciate different perspectives, then we need you.”
