Emergency Landing Incident
Former NFL player Robert Griffin III was aboard a flight that required an emergency landing. A video posted on social media by Griffin captures the incident. The United Airlines flight experienced a fire in its right engine shortly after departing from Houston.
“We heard 15 straight loud bangs and immediately knew something was wrong,” Griffin stated. Thanks to the efforts of the pilots, all passengers landed safely with no injuries.
Video footage shows the United Airlines aircraft back at the terminal after the emergency landing. Griffin III was in Jacksonville for a game between the Jaguars and the Bengals.
Commenting on the terrifying experience, Griffin offered expressions of faith and relief, saying, “God is good.”
Thoughts on Flying
Griffin shared his thoughts on flying, highlighting the discomfort with being off the ground and the general experience of air travel. Airports and security procedures are among his disliked aspects.
Griffin stated he is in favor of alternative travel methods, such as road trips, describing air travel as generally unpleasant. Although there is an appreciation for a good airport bar, Griffin emphasized the risks, especially the incident where the engine caught fire during flight.
Despite the risks and discomforts associated, Griffin was grateful for a safe landing and expressed relief upon returning unharmed to the ground.
Career Reflections
Robert Griffin III’s initial success stemmed from being drafted in 2012 after winning the Heisman Trophy in 2011. During his rookie year with Washington, he stood out as a top player, earning a Pro Bowl nomination.
However, Griffin’s career took a downturn post-injury, during a playoff game against Seattle. Despite returning to play the next season, his performance was not the same. Griffin retired after playing for several teams, including Cleveland and Baltimore.
Following retirement, Griffin transitioned to being an analyst for ESPN and later joined FOX Sports for college football coverage.
United Airlines Statement
United Airlines addressed the incident, confirming that flight 102 from Houston to Munich experienced an engine issue, prompting a return to George Bush Intercontinental Airport. The plane landed safely, and passengers were able to deplane normally.
Arrangements were made to transfer passengers to another aircraft for their continued journey.
