Caitlin Clark appeared visibly upset during the postgame conference following the Indiana Fever’s 113-96 defeat to the Atlanta Dream. It was a challenging game for Clark, whose demeanor reflected the frustration felt after the team’s second-half performance.
The Fever tallied 29 personal fouls, a statistic Clark pointed to while discussing the match. “What we did well in the first half was play in transition, spray, find open people,” Clark said. “It becomes difficult to do that when all we do is foul and they score.”
Clark had a significant share in the team’s 19 turnovers, committing seven herself. “We have to take care of the ball better, and that starts with me,” she acknowledged.
One viral moment captured Clark rolling her eyes at her coach, White, during the game. This incident contributed to the growing conversation around foul calls against the Fever.
“Obviously, there’s been an emphasis to call a lot of fouls,” White stated. “Freedom of movement’s been a focus. We’ve noticed an increase in foul calls overall.”
The Fever’s coach did not rule out the impact of the referees, noting a mix of factors. “Certainly, there are things we can do individually and collectively to avoid vulnerable positions,” he added.
Emotions flared on the court as well. During the first quarter, Clark took offense after being fouled by Jordin Canada and subsequently waived off Angel Reese following a contentious moment.
This defeat marked the Fever’s second loss to the Dream in a span of three days. Earlier, the Dream defeated them 108-101 in Indiana.
Clark finished with 26 points, three rebounds, and seven assists. The Fever’s record stands at 9-7, falling short of preseason expectations.
Meanwhile, Reese marked her 1,000th career rebound, achieving the milestone faster than anyone in WNBA history. The Atlanta Dream are currently leading the Eastern Conference with an 11-4 record.
