The World Cup in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico has introduced a new trend in athlete footwear: pink boots. Notable players such as Gio Reyna from the U.S., Vinícius Junior from Brazil, and Kylian Mbappé from France have sported these eye-catching pink shoes during their matches.
Pink boots are becoming a standout feature on the field, grabbing attention against the green turf. This development is due in part to brands like Nike, Adidas, Puma, Skechers, and New Balance, which released them with an aim to enhance visibility and performance.
Athletes associate this color with confidence and standing out, and that resonates,” said Odinga Nimako, Nike’s Director of Global Footwear.
Nimako explained that Nike has been at the forefront of changing perceptions about soccer boots, starting with their colored innovations in 1998. Now, pink is the chosen color for creating that impact.
Players like Mbappé and Vinícius showcase Nike boots, while others like Gio Reyna and Jude Bellingham opt for Adidas. Puma and Skechers also feature prominently with figures like Neymar Jr. and Harry Kane donning their brands respectively.
Alex Bardini of Skechers noted their inspiration comes from Southern California sunsets, featuring colors such as pink, purple, and orange that evoke the landscape’s beauty. Indeed, from Los Angeles to Guadalajara, pink has emerged as a prominent winner even before the World Cup concludes.
Although the color itself may not enhance performance, shoe companies highlight the mindset it cultivates. Bardini emphasized the importance of comfort and performance at Skechers, while Nike’s Nimako stressed how their products integrate engineering and aesthetic to amplify players’ experiences.
Pink boots are about more than visibility—they represent a combination of psychological and physical elements that contribute to athletes’ confidence on the field.
