Golf’s unpredictability is well known, even among the world’s top players like J.T. Poston. During the Travelers Championship, Poston experienced a challenging moment that changed the course of his day.
At the 13th hole, there was potential for a great score with greenside access in two shots. However, Poston, ranked 32nd in the Official World Golf Ranking, found himself in a difficult spot with an unfortunate score of 12, affecting his overall performance.

Despite not being at the top of the leaderboard, Poston hadn’t expected to end up near the bottom, yet that score played a significant role in his overall finish. He concluded 6-over and 1-over for the tournament, securing the 69th position out of 72 competitors who made the cut.
The trouble began with a perfect tee shot that landed in the fairway. However, the following shot found a greenside bunker. While a bunker isn’t usually problematic due to professional golfers’ advanced skills, Poston’s bunker shot fell short.
His fourth shot landed in the water beyond the green, intensifying the challenge. Multiple drops were necessary, as his attempts to return to the green were unsuccessful. It wasn’t until his tenth stroke that Poston positioned the ball for putting.

He missed his 11th putt but finally ended the sequence with a tap-in for a score of 12. Poston reflected on the situation, noting the difficulty created by the water and rough conditions.
When asked about his approach and whether putting out of the rough was considered, Poston explained his thinking. He worried that a putt wouldn’t carry enough speed over the false front on the green.
Unfortunately, his troubles extended to the next hole, with a double bogey on the 14th. Despite efforts to stabilize his game, Poston concluded with a score of 76 for that day.

Meanwhile, the Travelers Championship itself led to an exciting finish, requiring a playoff on Monday. This was after Viktor Hovland and Scottie Scheffler ended tied at 21-under, following Scheffler’s successful putt. Hovland missed a critical putt, providing Scheffler an open chance.
