As oppressive heat pushes the United States power grid to its limits and electricity costs soar, the Trump administration plans to reduce appliance efficiency standards. These standards have been effective in decreasing power demand and reducing utility costs.
Alanna Kelly was seen evaluating washers and dryers at Sam’s Appliances in Norwood, Massachusetts, back in 2021, highlighting the consumer’s role in energy efficiency decisions. The proposal to alter these longstanding mandates arises from the Energy Department’s claim that they represent a “scam.”
The changes target policies that have consistently promoted reduced energy consumption. The intention is to permanently modify these requirements, affecting the efficiency of home appliances nationwide.
