Two Chicago Police Officers Injured in South Shore Shooting

Two Chicago police officers were injured by gunfire on Friday evening in the South Shore neighborhood. Authorities reported that the incident occurred around 5 p.m. near the intersection of East 79th Street and South Chappel Avenue. Both officers were transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center, as stated by Larry Merritt, spokesperson for the Chicago Fire Department. A civilian was also taken to the hospital, although no details on their condition were immediately provided.

The specific circumstances of the shooting were not initially clear. However, a police source involved in the investigation noted that an exchange of gunfire happened following a traffic stop. According to this source, one officer was struck in the vest, and the other sustained an injury to the arm.
