A gold ring, about the size of a watch, adorned with an impressive array of jewels was presented to Bill White, the U.S. ambassador to Belgium. The ring, designed for U.S. President Donald Trump, features 321 diamonds, 56 sapphires, 13 emeralds, and six rubies. Its design includes two large letter T’s, the Stars and Stripes, the numbers ‘1776’ and ‘2026,’ and the number ‘250’ signifying the 250th anniversary of the United States.
The ring, a gift from the Antwerp World Diamond Center (AWDC), was bestowed during an event in Brussels commemorating America’s 250th birthday. Trump, unable to attend, expressed gratitude via a prerecorded message, thanking his Antwerp friends for the ‘magnificent Freedom 250 ring.’
Isidore Mörsel, president of the AWDC, presented the ring. The AWDC represents Antwerp’s historic diamond community, which navigated challenges from Trump’s trade policies last year. Mörsel emphasized that the ring symbolizes the strength and durability of partnerships, akin to natural diamonds.
The ring’s interior contains an engraved message: ‘Crafted in Antwerp for Donald John Trump.’
While the ring’s estimated value ranges from $25,000 to $35,000, gifts of higher monetary value have been received by Trump, such as Qatar’s donation of a plane estimated at $400 million, intended for a new Air Force One.
The gifting of such items reflects attempts to gain favor with the President. A White House official, requesting anonymity, mentioned that Trump has not yet received the ring. The gift arrives shortly after Belgium’s diamond sector successfully convinced the U.S. to remove tariffs on diamond imports from Antwerp.
The AWDC contributed ‘input’ to the European Commission’s negotiations with Trump over a broad 2025 tariff deal, although they did not directly lobby the U.S. administration.
U.S. law allows presidents discretion with gifts, except those from foreign governments. Presidents can keep gifts of personal nature or use personal funds to reimburse official gift values. Gifts must be reported in the annual financial disclosure.
According to Trump’s 2025 disclosure, he also received a sculpture valued at $250,000 depicting an event from a 2024 assassination attempt, along with tickets to sporting events worth $15,000.
Ethics experts noted Trump’s departure from traditional gift acceptance practices in the White House.
The AWDC collaborated with Antwerp jeweler David Gotlib to create the ring. Despite initial hesitance, independent jewelers estimated its value, half being the cost of materials and half labor.
The ring, introduced at a celebratory event in Brussels, involved performances and drew more than 8,000 attendees. The event raised over $5.5 million, with contributions from major corporations across various sectors.
Ambassador White, promoting the grandeur of the celebration, affirmed its scale as reflective of America’s stature. He announced on social media that the ring will eventually find a place in the Oval Office upon presentation to Trump.
