The NFL offseason reaches its quietest phase between mid-June and mid-July as teams take a brief break. However, football fans can anticipate the return of action soon with training camps resuming in just three weeks, leading to the preseason and the regular season kickoff around September 7.
During this downtime, we’ve been preparing training camp previews and examining key position battles across all 32 teams. Our current focus is on rookies from each team who could secure a starting role in the upcoming training camp. Today, we spotlight the Kansas City Chiefs.
Kansas City’s 2026 Draft Picks
- Mansoor Delane, CB, Round 1
- Peter Woods, DT, Round 1
- R Mason Thomas, DE, Round 2
- Jadon Canady, S, Round 4
- Emmett Johnson, RB, Round 5
- Cyrus Allen, WR, Round 5
- Garrett Nussmeier, QB, Round 7
The Chiefs made a strategic decision by trading up to the sixth overall pick to secure Mansoor Delane. This move indicates their high expectations for the unanimous All-American and first-team All-SEC selection. Delane’s arrival comes as the Chiefs seek to fill the vacant CB1 position following the trade of Trent McDuffie to the Los Angeles Rams.
Kristian Fulton, Nohl Williams, and L’Jarius Sneed are also in contention for the spot, but Delane stands out as the favorite. Last season, he proved himself as one of the top cover corners in college football, permitting a completion rate of just 40 percent. He allowed only 165 yards, no touchdowns, and maintained a passer rating against him of 31.3.
Delane’s defensive skills extend beyond coverage. During his collegiate career with LSU and Virginia Tech, he amassed eight interceptions, four forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery. These statistics reflect his ability to generate turnovers effectively.
The Chiefs’ secondary performance could determine their success against a lineup of formidable quarterbacks including Bo Nix, Justin Herbert, Sam Darnold, Josh Allen, Matthew Stafford, Joe Burrow, Drake Maye, and Brock Purdy. With these matchups on the horizon, a reliable defensive back is crucial for a successful playoff run.
Delane is expected to emerge from training camp as the Chiefs’ leading cornerback, filling a critical role in their defense.
