Trump Urges Supreme Court to Reconsider Birthright Citizenship

Former President Donald Trump has urged the Supreme Court to revisit the birthright citizenship case. This comes after reports of billboards promoting birth plans at U.S. hospitals appeared in Mexico.

Trump posted on Truth Social about signs along the U.S. border. These signs advertise delivery services starting at $4,000. He claimed this scheme could result in billions of dollars illegally acquired and citizenship granted to those paying for births in the U.S.

Judicial action is called for as Trump labeled the Supreme Court’s previous decision a “miscarriage of justice.” He warns that the ruling threatens to “destroy America” if unchanged.

The alleged “scam” mentioned by Trump is linked to an ad campaign by the Mission Regional Medical Center (MRMC) in South Texas. The campaign allegedly targeted illegal immigrants with birth packages, a claim supported by Texas Governor Greg Abbott.

Governor Abbott requested an investigation by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC). This investigation would focus on MRMC’s ads in Mexico, which Abbott accused of encouraging birth tourism. This practice, according to Abbott, exploits U.S. and Texas hospitality.

“Birth tourism is an illegal practice that exploits the extraordinary hospitality that the United States and Texas offer to millions of foreign travelers each year,” Abbott stated.

The MRMC offered delivery services starting at $3,950 for natural births and $5,525 for C-sections. The hospital confirmed their campaign but denied supporting illegal activities.

Trump emphasized that American citizenship should not be for sale, deeming the practice unlawful. Recently, Republicans in Congress have labeled birth tourism as a pressing issue in the U.S. Representative Andy Ogles of Tennessee has proposed legislation. This legislation aims to bar pregnant immigrants and visitors without U.S. citizen relatives from entry.
