Meta’s latest AI model, known as Muse, enables users to craft realistic deepfakes by utilizing publicly available Instagram photos. This tool is not limited to general users; it also allows the generation of deepfakes featuring celebrities and public figures.
The capability of Muse to create images from Instagram photos without requiring explicit consent from the individuals raises ethical and privacy concerns. Even though Meta has an AI detection tool in place to identify such deepfakes, it does not always succeed in catching them.
During the BRIDGE Summit 2025 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center, Meta’s exhibition booth showcased this new technology. The event highlighted the potential and capabilities of Muse AI, focusing on its ability to render highly realistic images.
The introduction of Muse AI prompts a broader discussion about the implications of deepfake technology. This includes issues related to privacy invasion and the potential misuse of digital likenesses, particularly when the subjects are unaware or did not consent to the use of their images.
