According to Neetu Arnold of City Journal, a publication by the Manhattan Institute, there is increasing skepticism towards current gifted education systems. The criticisms of such programs are not new, but recent arguments appear more extreme. For instance, writer Katie Arnold-Ratliff recently questioned the validity of student giftedness. She pointed out that only 12.3 percent of gifted individuals identified in a specific study achieved remarkable success by age 50. This means that 88 percent did not attain extraordinary status, such as becoming Fortune 500 leaders or award-winning journalists.
These statistics spark debate over the usefulness of gifted programs, with some suggesting they may not translate into exceptional achievements later in life. The data challenges the traditional metrics of success and prompts reevaluation of educational strategies used in these specialized programs.
