Dave Matthews Criticizes ICE Over Shooting Incident

Dave Matthews, the lead singer of the Dave Matthews Band, criticized Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents during a concert on Friday. He referred to the agents as “a–holes” while addressing the audience.

Matthews questioned why society allows violence and killing, expressing concerns about the excuses people make for such actions. His thoughts were shared in a viral video clip from the concert. Matthews emphasized the senselessness of violence and mourned the death of a man involved in a recent ICE-related shooting.

“Anyway, I wanted to say his name. I wrote it down so I didn’t forget it,” Matthews stated, referencing Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, who was killed by ICE officers in Houston, Texas.

Araujo, a Mexican citizen, was shot when ICE agents tried to stop him during an operation, according to the agency. ICE claimed Araujo attempted to use his vehicle as a weapon against an officer, prompting the officer to fire in self-defense. This event followed a similar incident involving activist Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis, which Matthews also condemned through an Instagram video.

“I don’t want my taxes to pay for ICE,” Matthews declared, expressing his disapproval of ICE’s actions and operations. He advocated for taking care of people rather than instilling fear and dividing families.
