Tom Cruise Embarks on Dramatic Transformation for Upcoming Film ‘Digger’

Tom Cruise showcases one of the most dramatic transformations of his career in the upcoming film, Digger. Released on Monday by Warner Bros., the first trailer offers a preview of the 64-year-old actor in a unique role.

Cruise plays Digger Rockwell, an eccentric oil magnate whose decisions push the world towards a global crisis. This sets him on an improbable mission to rescue humanity. According to the official synopsis, Digger Rockwell seeks to prove he’s a hero for humanity before a disaster he causes leads to widespread devastation.

The trailer begins with Digger worried about his sick cat and then yelling at an employee for suggesting the shutdown of a major project. The project holds the potential to trigger an astonishing $18 trillion disaster, introducing the film’s high-stakes narrative.

Cruise’s portrayal of Rockwell is strikingly atypical, with the actor sporting an unrecognizable look as the unpredictable billionaire. Social media users expressed astonishment at his transformation. One user wrote, “Respect for the glow down king,” while another noted, “Can’t get over the way you look.”

Digger highlights Cruise’s first lead role outside the Top Gun and Mission: Impossible franchises in years. Directed by Oscar winner Alejandro G. Iñárritu, known for Birdman and The Revenant, the film is set for theatrical release on October 2.

At a Q&A event in Los Angeles last week, Cruise expressed his enthusiasm for the project and the collaboration with Iñárritu. Cruise described the project as a significant challenge, emphasizing the originality of the film.
