A tragic incident occurred at the Chain O’ Lakes involving a teenage boy who went missing. Authorities were alerted around 6 p.m. about the disappearance of a 15-year-old swimmer near Fox Lake. Friends of the young swimmer attempted to locate him but ultimately contacted authorities for assistance.
Multiple agencies participated in the rescue operation. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office, Fox Lake Fire Protection District, and Illinois Conservation Police were among those responding to the emergency call. According to a spokesman from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, the teenager did not wear a flotation device when he either jumped or fell off a boat into the lake.
Approximately two hours after the initial call, divers, assisted by an underwater drone, discovered a body in Pistakee Lake. Authorities believe the recovered body belongs to the missing teenager. This somber discovery highlights the importance of water safety, including the use of flotation devices.
