Scare at MLB All-Star Game as Junior Caminero Injured

The MLB All-Star Game aims to showcase the sport, yet for the Tampa Bay Rays, it turned tense when a key player was injured.

Tuesday night saw Tampa Bay third baseman Junior Caminero hit by a 98 mph fastball from Riley O’Brien of the St. Louis Cardinals. The pitch struck Caminero’s left hand during the third inning, causing immediate concern.

As Caminero clutched his hand and headed to the AL dugout, trainers attended to him. He departed the game, allowing Miguel Vargas to pinch-run in his stead. Concerns filled the air, but subsequent X-rays revealed no fractures.

Fox’s Joe Davis echoed the collective unease: “Everybody’s worst nightmare in an exhibition is that anything like this happens.” Despite the scare, Caminero entered the break tied for fourth in MLB home runs, reinforcing Tampa Bay’s top position in the AL East.
