Recently, a tuxedo kitten named Magnolia was at the center of an unusual attempted bank robbery in Maryland. Described as a ‘true purr machine,’ Magnolia is a 3-month-old kitten featured in the adoption area at Pet Supplies Plus located on Baltimore Avenue.
On a morning in Beltsville, Maryland, pet store employees noticed Magnolia was missing. A frantic call was made to Beltsville Community Cats, a rescue organization, detailing the disappearance.
Security footage showed a man wearing a light-colored T-shirt and black beanie entering the pet store. Moments later, he exited carrying the kitten.
‘He just went right to her and ran right on out,’ said Aaron Kurkowski, store manager.
The suspect then headed to the nearby PNC Bank. Witnesses saw him enter the bank with Magnolia. Inside, he approached an employee asking them ‘Can you hold this?’ before presenting a teller with a note demanding money.
Stephanie Stullich from Beltsville Community Cats shared that the police intervention was rapid and intense, initially surprising given it was for a stolen kitten. However, the situation escalated when the events at the bank became clear.
Prince George’s County police successfully apprehended the suspect, ensuring Magnolia’s safety. Post-arrest, Magnolia bonded with the bank manager during the incident.
‘The robbery was unsuccessful, the suspect was arrested, and Magnolia was found safe and sound,’ wrote the rescue on Facebook.
Magnolia’s ordeal hasn’t diminished her playful spirit. Currently available for adoption, she is affectionate and enjoys adventure and cuddles. Due to her energetic nature, the rescue recommends Magnolia be adopted into a home with another young cat or alongside another one from the rescue.
‘She’s looking for a law-abiding citizen with a lot of love in their heart,’ Stullich mentioned.
This incident ended well for Magnolia, who continues her search for a loving forever home.
