Former Goldman Sachs Lawyer’s Testimony on Jeffrey Epstein Relationship

Kathryn Ruemmler, previously Goldman Sachs’ general counsel, provided testimony in a closed Congressional hearing about her association with Jeffrey Epstein.

Addressing the House Oversight Committee, Ruemmler stated that during the six years she knew Epstein, she observed no indications of his abusive actions towards women or girls. However, she recognized him as a “masterful liar.” Her testimony also highlighted her offer of advice to Epstein, acceptance of gifts from him, and casual email exchanges.

In her opening statement, Ruemmler acknowledged that Epstein used several respected individuals to validate his image. She admitted to being one of the people Epstein exaggerated his relationship with. A copy of her statement was acquired by The New York Times.

“I can see now that he used me and other respectable people to legitimize his standing, and I know now that he often exaggerated his relationship with me to others,” Ruemmler stated.

Ruemmler was among the high-profile Wall Street figures whose careers were impacted due to affiliations with Epstein. She resigned from Goldman Sachs in February, where she earned $25 million annually, following the release of emails by the Justice Department. These emails portrayed an extensive and personal relationship with Epstein, where Ruemmler engaged in light-hearted communication, even referring to him as “sweetie” and providing him counsel on previous allegations of soliciting sex from a minor.

Ruemmler clarified that her association with Epstein began in 2014 after she left her position as White House counsel under the Obama administration, starting her role at Latham & Watkins leading the white-collar defense team.
