KC Navarro Reflects on Slammiversary and Overcoming Challenges

Kent Carter Navarro, known as KC Navarro, recently competed in the Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA) X Division Championship at Slammiversary, narrowly missing out on the title victory. Despite the outcome, the event held a unique significance for him.

Navarro faced his mentor, Amazing Red, during the match. Their interaction in the ring highlighted one of the standout sequences of the event. Navarro shared his experience of battling a fear of heights, a challenge he confronted while attempting to ascend the pillar to reach the rope and contend for the championship.

“So, this Ultimate X was a lot more special than the first one I was in at Rebellion last year. See, me, I’m not a big fan of heights. So, it actually takes me a while to climb that thing, and I have to see what I’m gonna do,” Navarro told Fox News Digital.

Navarro described the match as particularly significant, given Amazing Red’s participation.

Amazing Red, once an X Division champion, mentored Navarro throughout his career. Having the chance to share the ring with Red in his return match was profoundly impactful for Navarro.

“A lot of people don’t know, but it was set on commentary, Amazing Red was a big mentor for me for my entire career. Somebody I looked up to. I mean, obviously me and him, same stature… And just to be a part of his first match back, it was very special for me,” he expressed.

Navarro also recounted his experience in the previous Slammiversary where he entered with a torn ACL, taking a significant risk in a ladder match against prominent teams like The Hardys, The Nemeths, and The Rascalz. For this year’s Ultimate X match, he received a “brand-new” knee, participating in a potentially dangerous bout. Despite the risks, Navarro was grateful for the opportunity to compete for the X Division title alongside wrestlers such as Leon Slater, Fabian Aichner, Mr. Elegance, Frankie Kazarian, and others.

“Yeah, I’m not a fan of heights, and it might be just from the injury, right? Like, I just might have been thinking too much, like, ‘Oh man, what if I get hurt.’ But, I mean, it’s just me man,” Navarro stated.

Navarro further mentioned his strategy of keeping God first and relying on adrenaline during matches. Once the bell rings and the spotlight hits, he becomes focused and determined.

“I just keep God first. I count on the adrenaline to get me through, which it does because once that bell rings, got no choice. Got to go for that belt.” he shared.

In his ongoing feud with TNA world champion Nic Nemeth, Navarro aims to reclaim his spot at the top of the wrestling roster.
