A teleprompter operator at the White House has been put on unpaid leave after engaging in online prediction market activity that involved wagers connected to President Donald Trump’s public speeches. Federal regulators flagged this activity, prompting the action.

The White House confirmed the situation on Thursday. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that the President decided to place the staffer on leave. The individual is currently cooperating with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission regarding the matter.

The incident shines a light on the scrutiny faced by individuals working closely with high-profile government figures. Their actions must remain free from any conflict of interest, especially those that involve betting or prediction markets related to official matters.
