Tribute to Johan Guerrero: Remembering His Dedication and Love

The partner of Johan Guerrero, a Colombian immigrant who died after being shot by a federal immigration agent in Maine, has spoken out. She wants people to remember him for his dedication to his family, not the tragic circumstances of his death.

In her initial public comments since the incident, Karolina Rojas described Johan Guerrero, 25, as a relentless worker. She highlighted his role as an attentive partner and a devoted father to their 3-year-old daughter.

Ms. Rojas, during a news conference in Biddeford, Maine, spoke through tears as she read her statement aloud. An interpreter translated her words back to English.

“From the moment he learned he would have a little princess, everything in him changed,” Ms. Rojas stated.

She recalled how Mr. Guerrero was committed to ensuring his daughter, whom he affectionately called ‘gordita,’ had everything she needed. From the time he held her, he never let her go, striving to build a life where she would never lack for anything.

Mr. Guerrero came to the United States in 2023, motivated by the desire to create a better future for his family.

Details about the fatal shooting in Biddeford have not been disclosed by investigators. However, a spokesman for Senator Angus King indicated that Mr. Guerrero was not the intended target of the immigration operation. He was on his way to work, sitting in his car shortly after 7 a.m., when the incident occurred.
