Hooters’ Original Founders Aim to Broaden Restaurant’s Appeal
The Hooters restaurant chain, under the stewardship of its original founders, is undergoing significant changes after reestablishing control following a corporate bankruptcy. Neil Kiefer, founding member and CEO of Hooters Inc., emphasized a shift back to the chain’s core values, focusing on food, hospitality, and widening its customer base.
This means shaking off what Kiefer described as an ‘oversexualized image’ to reach families and younger audiences. Yet in South Florida, employees at locally operated Hooters have maintained a consistent presence with family-friendly service.
South Florida: A Family-Oriented Approach
Gracie Williams, a server with nearly six years at Hooters in South Florida, told Fox News Digital, ‘Here in South Florida, nothing is changing for us. We’ve always focused on being welcoming to families.’ This consistent approach is echoed by Micayla Williams, her colleague of two years.
Nothing’s really changed for our locations. We get families. We get elderly people. We get teenagers, even kids.
The perspective in South Florida offers a contrast to the national discussion. These locations serve a diverse clientele, contrary to the popular image associated with the brand.
Building Community and Hospitality
Kiefer plans to restore a broader appeal similar to Hooters’ original vision, integrating hospitality, quality food, and community involvement as focal points. Moving away from reputations as ‘oversexualized’ spaces is pivotal to this vision. South Florida locations, he said, have consistently embraced this ethos.
Gracie Williams highlighted the traditional elements that have sustained the brand’s popularity. ‘Good food, hot wings, cold beer and, of course, pretty girls.’ These elements form the foundation of the Hooters experience. But there is more to the story at these locations.
Focus on Family and Community
Both Gracie and Micayla noted the influx of families during the day, particularly at beachside venues. These locations offer a family-friendly dining atmosphere, with popular menu items like chicken wings and curly fries appealing to guests of all ages.
Hooters’ commitment to community involvement is evidenced by various fundraising events, supporting local charities and youth sports. Gracie Williams shared her experiences of facilitating these events, believing they enhance the restaurant’s communal ties.
‘A lot of people have the wrong idea about regulars,’ Gracie explained. ‘Here, regulars are like family.’
As Hooters seeks to redefine its public image, the South Florida locations, staffed by women like Gracie and Micayla, are determined to maintain their well-established community-centric service.
