Darline Graham Considers Senate Run Following Brother’s Passing

Darline Graham has shown interest in running for a full Senate term after memorial services were announced for her late brother, Lindsey Graham. According to The Associated Press, three individuals privy to the discussions confirmed Graham’s exploration of a potential campaign.

South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster appointed Darline to complete her brother’s Senate term on Monday. She was sworn into office on Tuesday. The special primary filing period is open from July 21 to July 28, with the primary election set for August 11. Notable politicians considering a Senate run include Reps. Russell Fry, Nancy Mace, Ralph Norman, and Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette, as reported by the AP.

Memorial services for the late senator are planned for Tuesday, July 28, in Washington, D.C. and on Wednesday, July 29, in Columbia and Pickens County, South Carolina. Darline Graham is South Carolina’s first female senator and the first sister appointed to the Senate.

During her appointment ceremony, Darline Graham expressed her dedication to continuing her brother’s legacy. “Lindsey has always been there for me, and now I will be there for him,” she stated. “My brother was an amazing person, an outstanding leader, and a genuinely good man.”

She will serve as a caretaker for the Senate seat, completing Lindsey Graham’s term through January. Lindsey Graham passed away at 71 years of age on Saturday.

A statement from Graham’s office provided preliminary findings from the District of Columbia’s Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, indicating that an aortic dissection due to arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease was the cause of death.
