President Donald Trump will present the FIFA World Cup trophy to the winner between Spain and Argentina on Sunday. This was confirmed by a White House official to Fox News.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino announced on “Fox & Friends” last month that he and Trump would hand over the trophy to the winning team’s captain at the New York/New Jersey Stadium.
Infantino also mentioned Trump’s planned attendance at the event. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt described this as a “fitting conclusion to a tournament that showcased America’s ability to host the world on the grandest stage.”
Previously, Trump participated in the trophy presentation of the FIFA Club World Cup after Chelsea’s victory over Paris Saint-Germain.

Earlier in the World Cup, Trump was involved in a major controversy by calling Infantino and requesting a review of Folarin Balogun’s red card decision. Balogun was initially suspended for Team USA’s Round of 16 match but was later cleared to play.
Despite not attending a World Cup match yet, Secretary of State Marco Rubio was seen at the U.S. Men’s National Team’s match against Paraguay, which they won 4-1 on June 12.
Trump was awarded the inaugural FIFA Peace Prize during the World Cup final draw in December, held at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.

Recently, Trump attended Game 3 of the NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden. The White House also hosted UFC Freedom 250 last month, and the city will witness an IndyCar race next month.
