Vice President’s Wife Usha Vance Welcomes Fourth Child

Second lady Usha Vance has given birth to her fourth child. The announcement, made by the Vance family’s office on X, confirmed the arrival of Alec Neel Vance on Sunday morning.

“Usha and the baby are happy and healthy, and our kids are overjoyed to meet their little brother.”

Usha, 40, holds the distinction of being the first woman since the 1870s to give birth while her husband serves as vice president. The couple already shares three children, aged 4 to 9: two sons and a daughter.

While promoting his latest book earlier this year, Vice President JD Vance expressed skepticism about taking parental leave following the birth. The pregnancy was announced in January with a due date projected for late July.

In March, during a White House event in Michigan, the vice president revealed he had persuaded his wife to expand their family. Speaking candidly, Vance recalled telling his wife, “Honey, I really want to have a fourth kid,” to which she replied, “Well, you can become vice president or you can have a fourth baby.” Vance humorously noted his persuasion skills, saying, “I am persuasive, because I got both.”

Later that month, Usha Vance confirmed to NBC News that her husband influenced her decision to welcome a fourth child. She remarked that she had never completely ruled out this possibility, even though initially she considered their family complete after the birth of their daughter.

“But as time passed,” Usha reflected, “I realized that I was feeling more and more excited about that possibility.” She embraced the potential for four children, acknowledging, “I knew that I’d be happy if we only had three kids, and I knew that I’d be happy if we had four.”

Meanwhile, discussions are ongoing regarding the vice president and second lady potentially leasing a home in Middleburg, Virginia. This would be separate from the vice president’s official residence at the Naval Observatory in Washington, D.C. The Secret Service is expected to enhance security measures at the rural property.
