Russia Launches Missile Attacks on Ukrainian Cities

Kyiv Overnight Attack
The attacks on Kyiv began at 1:30 a.m. and lasted several hours. Russia launched 41 missiles and 125 drones across Ukraine overnight. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that most missiles targeted Kyiv.
Later, a Russian strike on a postal facility near Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, resulted in three deaths and 20 injuries. Russian guided bombs also hit Kherson and Sumy, each strike leaving a casualty.
Frequent Strikes on Kyiv
The assaults on Kyiv caused fires in five districts, harming homes, offices, industrial sites, a dormitory, and vehicles. Emergency services worked to rescue individuals from burning structures. Residents, like Viktoria Shejko, experienced psychological stress due to the frequent attacks.
The Russian Defense Ministry claimed the attacks targeted Ukrainian military sites, including drone production facilities and missile part plants.
Caspian Pipeline Consortium Strike
Separately, a strike impacted two oil tankers at the Caspian Pipeline Consortium terminal in Novorossiysk, Russia. The CPC suspended oil loadings, reporting no casualties or spills.
Ukraine’s strikes on oil vessels aim to disrupt fuel supplies to Crimea, annexed by Russia in 2014. Ukraine targets Russia’s covert oil fleet violating sanctions over its invasion.
Impact on Russia’s Energy Sector
Ukraine hit energy facilities in Russia, including oil depots in the Stavropol region and tankers in the Black Sea. Ukrainian drones ignited fires at industrial sites, further weakening Russia’s energy operations.
Russian air defense claimed to have downed 140 Ukrainian drones across multiple regions overnight. Ukrainian drones also caused damage and injuries in Russia’s Kursk region near the border.
