The Trump Phone has arrived following months of delays. Many customers express dissatisfaction over concerns about its manufacturing origin, design, and features.
Launching With American Ideals
Trump Mobile, a wireless phone carrier initiated by Donald Trump’s sons, Don Jr. and Eric, announced the T1 Phone in June 2025. Marketed with the “America First” ideology, this gold-colored phone, featuring the U.S. flag, aimed to be an affordable choice at $499. Comparatively, newer Apple iPhones range from $800 to $1,200. It positioned itself as an “all-American” alternative to Apple and Samsung, which manufacture devices outside the U.S. Early messaging suggested it was designed and built in the U.S. for discerning customers.
Hundreds of thousands paid a $100 deposit to pre-order the Trump Phones, initially expected for release in August/September 2025. That’s when issues emerged.
Facing Delays and Concerns
The T1 launch faced repeated delays, with the Trump administration blaming a 43-day government shutdown. The phone’s production message shifted from “Made in America” to being “shaped by American innovation,” a fact revealed by The Verge.
Eric Trump, vice president of the Trump Organization, mentioned plans for eventual domestic manufacturing. Mediaite highlighted changes in pre-order terms, stating no guarantee of the device’s release or delivery timing. Language such as “estimated ship dates” and “anticipated production schedule” were dubbed as non-binding estimates.
The terms warned: “Trump Mobile does not guarantee that: the Device will be commercially released; regulatory approvals (including FCC authorization) will be obtained; carrier certification will be secured; production will commence or continue; or delivery will occur within any specific timeframe.”
Product Launch and Reactions
This month, Trump Mobile announced the start of T1 Phone shipments. Their social media declared, “The T1 Phone has arrived!! Pre-ordered phones start shipping this week!” However, a video posted to X platform flagged the U.S. flag in it for having errors, such as “11 then nine stripes.”
After a nine-month delay, early customers shared their reactions, which were mixed. A significant issue pointed out was the American flag on the device having 11 stripes instead of 13. This misrepresentation challenged its patriotic branding.
Hardware and Software Issues
Reports suggested the Trump Phone might be a rebranded Android device rather than an original design. Its unique features included only the gold casing and Trump branding. Android Authority compared it to the HTC U24 Pro, while Times Now likened it to the Wingtech REVVL 7 Pro 5G. Concerns arose that it might be a regular phone with new branding.
Tech reviews noted the T1 Phone using mid-range hardware, like the Snapdragon 7 chip. This choice conflicts with its $499 price, suggesting the device was made in China or Taiwan, where similar devices are manufactured.
The phone includes Truth Social, Trump’s social media platform, preinstalled. While not inherently problematic, this inclusion suggests political branding over technological advancement, raising privacy questions. Critics say the focus might be more on identity than technology.
Online criticism followed. Sheel Mohnot, co-founder of Better Tomorrow Ventures, a venture capital firm, commented humorously on X about the incorrect stripes. Edward Krassenstein, a critic of the Trump administration, deemed the phone outdated and overpriced. Molly Ploofkins, another critic, brought attention to the flag error on social media.
