Connor Bedard Signs Major Contract Extension with Chicago Blackhawks

The Chicago Blackhawks have solidified their future by signing Connor Bedard to a five-year contract extension worth $75 million. This agreement ensures Bedard will remain with the team until the end of the 2030-31 season, after which he will become an unrestricted free agent.

Bedard expressed relief over the deal’s completion, stating, “Obviously it’s a relief and nice to get it done for myself and the team. I don’t think there was any stress involved with it.” He emphasized his commitment to staying in Chicago, appreciating the camaraderie among the young players and the positive environment within the team.

Chicago is really the only place I want to play. Seeing the growth of our young guys and just how good of a group we are in the room — how tight it is, how much fun we have — I’m very happy to get this deal signed and just focus on the team.

Currently, Bedard is recovering from shoulder surgery following a fall during practice. This marks the third time in four seasons that he won’t be able to play a full season due to injury, although he remains optimistic about recovery.

Entering his fourth year, Bedard boasts impressive records for players under 21, including 203 points in 219 games. This surpasses Eddie Olczyk’s previous record of 180 points. Despite having some leverage during contract talks after a career-best 75 points last season, Bedard remained focused on helping the team achieve competitiveness.

Bedard’s agent, Don Meehan, highlighted Bedard’s willingness to assist the team economically, indicating Bedard’s satisfaction with his submitted negotiation position.

Bedard acknowledged the financial aspect, noting that his average annual value of $15 million is the largest in Blackhawks history and among the highest in the NHL currently.

Blackhawks General Manager Kyle Davidson has made strategic moves this summer, acquiring key players such as Bowen Byram, Cole Smith, and Ian Cole. All new additions received a warm welcome from Bedard, reinforcing team unity.

Bedard praised newcomers, expressing optimism about their impact. He also showed leadership by reaching out to welcome them, demonstrating qualities of a potential captain, though he downplayed it as an official role.

Chris Chelios revealed that Patrick Kane is deciding whether to join the Blackhawks or Sabres. Bedard expressed enthusiasm about Kane’s potential return, emphasizing Kane’s positive impact on team and fan morale.
