Boston Red Sox Achieve Historic 15-Game Winning Streak

The Boston Red Sox have achieved a significant milestone by matching their historic record from 1946. The team won 15 consecutive games, a feat last accomplished when Ted Williams led them to an American League championship.

During Wednesday’s doubleheader opener, the Red Sox secured a 6-3 victory over the Baltimore Orioles, equaling the 80-year-old record. Interim manager Chad Tracy recognized the achievement, noting the historical significance. “I’ve read some stuff. I know Ted Williams was around back then, so I’m aware of the year and how long it’s been,” he said. “It’s cool that they’ve accomplished something great.”

After the game, the team took their time savoring the moment on the field, with “Dirty Water” playing as usual in Fenway Park after each victory. The atmosphere carried over to the clubhouse where celebrations continued. Tracy noted the excitement, saying, “Oh, yeah, absolutely between the staff. We were realizing the guys were going crazy in the locker room — they always do — but even more emphasis right now with what we’re going through. Everybody enjoys it for sure.”

The journey to this winning streak began after a challenging start to the season. Boston dismissed manager Alex Cora following a 10-17 opening, and their outlook appeared bleak under Tracy, standing at 37-48 on July 1. However, the team has not lost a game since that date. Tracy made history as the first manager since the 19th century to achieve a 15-game winning streak without starting the season in the role.

In the game against Baltimore, Boston jumped to a 4-0 lead in the first inning. Starting pitcher Jake Bennett kept the Orioles at bay, allowing three runs over 5 2/3 innings. With a 6-3 lead after six innings, Caleb Durbin, who previously hit a tiebreaking homer, began contemplating the countdown of outs. “I think in the seventh inning I’m counting them down a little bit,” he admitted with a smile.

Jarren Duran, Boston’s left fielder, relished the chance to appreciate the crowd after the final out. He shared, “When I get to go see (them), I take a look around and I get to enjoy that moment, that’s always fun.”

The Red Sox, in their 126th season, understand the significance of this streak. Durbin reflected on its importance, stating, “You look back at it and think about where you’re doing it and how long this franchise has existed. It’s been incredible. It feels great. One win closer to 16 to break it. I’m just glad we’ve got another one to play today.”

Orioles manager Craig Albernaz, a Massachusetts native, acknowledged the Red Sox’s accomplishment. “I mean, a 15-game heater is really impressive,” he said. “You know, it’s tough to win one game in the big leagues and them going 15 straight, it’s really impressive.”
