Chicago White Sox Edge Out Texas Rangers with Key Plays

ARLINGTON, Texas — The Chicago White Sox secured a hard-fought victory over the Texas Rangers with a score of 4-2 on Wednesday. The action unfolded at Globe Life Field in front of 31,127 fans.

White Sox pitcher Anthony Kay played a pivotal role. With the bases loaded and no outs in the bottom of the fourth, he delivered a crucial pitch. He forced Elias Díaz to ground to third base, where Miguel Vargas made a sharp play. Vargas stepped on third for one out and threw to first for a double play, allowing only one run. Kay then struck out Alejandro Osuna to end the inning. “To escape that with only one run was huge,” Kay expressed. “A great play by Vargas at third helped us get out of it.”

Kay’s performance was impressive over five innings. He gave up two runs on five hits, recorded four strikeouts, and had two walks. His efforts helped him improve to a 7-4 record this season.

Manager Will Venable praised Kay’s control throughout the game. “He managed the game well,” Venable remarked. “He was competitive in the zone, especially in tough spots.”

The win placed the Sox atop the American League Central, one game ahead of the Cleveland Guardians, who lost to the Minnesota Twins.

Offensively, Chase Meidroth led the team with four singles and two RBIs. Andrew Benintendi contributed with two hits and two RBIs, while Braden Montgomery scored three times.

In the second inning, Montgomery reached third on a wild pitch and scored due to Meidroth’s single, giving the Sox a 1-0 advantage. After Cam Cauley’s home run tied the game in the second, the Sox reclaimed the lead in the fourth. Munetaka Murakami walked and scored on Meidroth’s single. Benintendi followed with an RBI single to increase the lead to 3-1.

The Rangers narrowed the lead in the fourth, but Montgomery’s efforts in the sixth, along with timely hitting, pushed the Sox further ahead. Benintendi’s single brought in the final run, making it 4-2.

The bullpen showed strength as three relievers combined for eight strikeouts, allowing no hits in the final innings. Despite some errors, Jordan Hicks maintained the lead in the sixth, while Grant Taylor and Bryan Hudson expertly handled the final frames. Hudson closed the game with two strikeouts for his fourth save.

Reflecting on their recent success, Kay noted, “Starting the second half strong is vital. Taking wins in both Toronto and Texas is an excellent way to begin.”
