The WNBA is facing criticism over its communication practices, highlighted by recent events involving prominent players. Minnesota Lynx star Kayla McBride and New York Liberty standout Sabrina Ionescu have both had to clarify reasons for their absence from the league’s 3-point contest.

"For those that are so concerned, I received a half-hearted invite to the 3-point contest through my agent via text 48 hours ago…not officially," McBride expressed on her Instagram Story. Her remarks reflect dissatisfaction with the manner of communication used by the league.

McBride’s statement came amidst rumors suggesting she was avoiding a challenge. She refuted such claims and emphasized focusing on participating athletes, including Bridget Carleton, Azzi Fudd, Natisha Hiedeman, Rhyne Howard, Marina Mabrey, and Janelle Salaün.

Ionescu, the reigning champion, revealed she never received an official invitation, countering rumors that she declined participation.

McBride, having been part of three previous contests, continues to excel in her career, currently averaging 18.2 points per game. Her comments suggest a desire for better organization and respect for players.

The league’s 3-point contest is scheduled for Friday at 8 p.m. ET. Despite the absence of McBride, Ionescu, and Caitlin Clark, excitement for the event remains.
