Federal Appeal Court Ruling Allows Researcher to Stay on Bond
Badar Khan Suri, a researcher from Georgetown University, faced targeting by immigration authorities due to his family’s pro-Palestinian stance in the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict. This accusation was made by Suri himself.
On May 14, 2025, Suri was greeted by his wife, Mapheze Saleh, at Washington Dulles International Airport. A judge had ordered his release from a Texas immigration detention center, highlighting the contentious nature of his detention.
Having been abruptly taken from his Virginia residence and relocated across multiple detention facilities, Suri has now been granted permission to remain free on bond. A federal appeals court confirmed this decision on Thursday, marking a significant turn in his legal and immigration struggles.
