Patrick Mahomes Declares Readiness for NFL Season After Surgery

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes recently shared his iconic clock emoji on Twitter. Fans recognize this as a signal that Mahomes plans to confront his critics head-on. His tweet followed a meeting with local media where he announced his clearance to join training camp fully after undergoing surgery for a torn ACL and LCL seven months ago. “This is just another checkpoint on the schedule,” Mahomes explained. “You have to continue to work. It’s not like it’s over, and I’m just gonna be able to play a game tomorrow. You gotta continue to work and get better and better and go throughout practice and prove to the coaches, prove to the doctors, and everybody that I’m the same quarterback I was before, if not better.”

When questioned about how this injury has improved his playing, Mahomes offered an ominous warning to fellow NFL teams: “I feel stronger than I’ve ever felt.” He emphasized the importance of honing his skills, especially quick movements and decision-making in the pocket.

Mahomes acknowledged areas where he aims to improve, such as managing the pocket better and enhancing the team’s offensive coordination. “I felt like I wasn’t playing my best football at the end of last year before I got hurt,” he said. “I’ve gotta find ways to get better, navigating the pocket and running the offense better, and getting the ball out of hands, letting other guys make plays. I think this injury helped me focus on those little things as I get back to being who I am.”

While Mahomes plans to return to his previous form, he intends to reduce his rushing attempts. With the addition of Kenneth Walker III, former Seattle Seahawks running back and reigning Super Bowl MVP, Mahomes expects less pressure to lead in rushing yards. In his eight-year stint as the Chiefs’ primary quarterback, Mahomes has never had the support of a 1,000-yard rusher.
