Philadelphia Flyers forward Matvei Michkov recently achieved viral fame with an impressive lacrosse-style goal during a summer charity hockey game. This skillful display occurred during Russia’s Match of the Year, an event organized by NHL players Artemi Panarin and Mikhail Sergachev. The game also featured stars like Capitals’ Alex Ovechkin.
Last season was challenging for Michkov. He arrived at the 2025-26 training camp out of shape and struggled initially. Despite the setbacks, he ended the season with 51 points in 81 games. Now, Michkov is using the offseason to improve, working out in his native Russia.
His recent goal showcased his well-known ability to handle the puck deftly. Although it took place in a charity match, such a move demonstrates significant skill. Flyers fans hope Michkov’s form carries into the 2026-27 season as the team shifts focus from rebuilding to competing for a playoff spot.
The Flyers’ front office, led by GM Daniel Briere, is strategizing for future success. Though their gamble on player Leo Carlsson did not succeed, the team solidified its roster by re-signing important players like Trevor Zegras and Jamie Drysdale. This young Flyers lineup, with Michkov as a key component, appears ready to challenge for the playoffs.
