Laura Loomer’s Reversal on Ukraine and Her Influence on Trump

Laura Loomer, widely known for disseminating conspiracy theories online, has made a notable shift. She now travels across Ukraine to witness the destruction caused by Russia’s prolonged conflict. Loomer acknowledges that she herself was misled by false information. Once a steadfast critic of Ukraine, she now appeals to conservatives to be cautious of Russian propaganda, which she attributes to misleading many Americans on the right.

During a recent interview in Kyiv, Loomer stressed the importance of independent research. ‘You don’t need to listen to a podcaster to form an opinion about a country. You can look at those facts yourself,’ she told the Associated Press after visiting areas close to the eastern front line. The discussion moved to an underground bomb shelter due to a missile attack in Kyiv.

Despite lacking an official position, Loomer continues to have Trump’s ear, claiming she spoke to him after meeting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Loomer anticipates a reunion with Trump after her return. Her new stance on Ukraine has intrigued Kyiv’s leaders but stirred mixed reactions in the U.S. She insists that her travels are not funded by Ukraine.

Loomer’s visit coincides with an upcoming meeting between Trump and Zelenskyy. She declared her trip vital, affecting debates in Congress on sanctions against Russia. ‘It’s looking good for Ukraine,’ Loomer commented ahead of the Washington talks, indicating optimism for Ukraine’s position.

After years of diminishing the war and promoting Russian narratives, Loomer admitted to being misled. During an interview with Zelenskyy for her show on Rumble, she confessed, ‘I was bamboozled by Russian propaganda.’ Loomer attributed her past beliefs to the Russian media prevalent on platforms like Telegram after she was banned from mainstream social media.

Her change of heart emerged gradually as she observed conservative figures like Tucker Carlson criticizing Trump, with Russian sources amplifying their rhetoric. Loomer, identifying as an independent journalist, believes her shift is influencing the ‘Make America Great Again’ community. ‘I’ve received messages from people realizing how much we’ve been lied to,’ she shared.

Ukrainian officials seized the chance to win over a key Trump ally. Besides interviewing Zelenskyy, Loomer met with top Ukrainian authorities and visited cultural and religious sites. ‘Laura is influential in the U.S., and her firsthand experiences will spread the truth,’ remarked Tetyana Berezhna, Ukraine’s deputy prime minister.

While some doubt her influence, Trump values Loomer’s guidance. She frequently traveled with him during the 2024 campaign and influenced staff changes in the National Security Council. Trump shared Loomer’s interview with Zelenskyy on social media, exclaiming, ‘Very good!!!’

Loomer, known for her controversial claims, now criticizes podcasters who spread misinformation. She lamented their capacity to shape opinions, declaring it a ‘major national security threat.’ Loomer warned that misinformation could be more destructive than any potential armed conflict, urging the Trump administration to address Russian propaganda seriously.

The White House has often downplayed Moscow’s influence, despite Trump’s 2016 campaign benefits from Russian interference. Loomer reiterates that her travel was self-funded, assuring, ‘I wasn’t paid by anybody, especially not by Ukraine.’

‘If it’s fake, why did I risk my life? I’m in a bomb shelter right now,’ she asserted.
