Marvel Studios Unveils Future Releases at Comic-Con

Marvel Studios has unveiled exciting updates during their presentation at Comic-Con International. The studio announced that David Jonsson will portray the new Black Panther. He will play the role of T’Challa’s son in the upcoming film, scheduled for release in 2028. Jonsson appeared on stage with franchise director Ryan Coogler, Letitia Wright, and Winston Duke. With a hand on his heart and a broad smile, Jonsson expressed his gratitude for joining the Marvel family. The third installment of ‘Black Panther’ is set to premiere on December 15, 2028.

Jonsson, known for his roles in ‘Industry’, ‘The Long Walk’, and ‘Alien: Romulus’, expressed his excitement about joining the ‘Black Panther’ series without revealing much, stating he wants the screen to convey the message. The original ‘Black Panther’ from 2018 made history by being the first superhero film nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars, grossing over $1.3 billion globally. Its sequel earned $850 million worldwide.

In another announcement, Ryan Gosling joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Ghost Rider. He will collaborate again with director Shawn Levy from ‘Star Wars: Starfighter’. Gosling shared his long-time desire to play Ghost Rider with Marvel Studios’ head, Kevin Feige. Eva Mendes, Gosling’s partner, appeared in the original ‘Ghost Rider’ film alongside Nicolas Cage in 2007. Marvel now holds the cinematic rights to Ghost Rider after Sony released a sequel in 2012.

Additionally, Feige announced the re-release of ‘Avengers: Endgame’, scheduled for September 25. The updated version will connect to ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, set to release on December 18. A trailer for ‘Doomsday’ showcased Victor Von Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr., and his past connections to Reed Richards (Pedro Pascal) and Sue Storm (Vanessa Kirby). The trailer depicted tension between Doom and Richards, with Storm describing Doom as a changed, broken individual.

The ‘Doomsday’ panel featured stars like Wright, Duke, Chris Evans, and many others. Ryan Reynolds made a surprise appearance as Deadpool, donning a new gray costume. He humorously questioned why Thor was crying in the previous film, to which Paul Rudd jokingly responded with a reference to Reynolds’ co-owned football team.

Marvel Studios is looking to rejuvenate its brand following criticisms of recent Disney+ series and films such as ‘Captain America: Brave New World’. Despite a decline in interest for superhero movies, anticipation remains high for ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’, expected to dominate box offices this summer. Ticket pre-sales for ‘Doomsday’ are also promising, suggesting continued interest in upcoming Marvel projects.
