Deadly Shooting at Massive Party in Rural California

A shooting at a large party in rural California resulted in one death and six injuries on Saturday night, as hundreds of attendees sought safety during the chaos. The incident occurred shortly after 10 p.m. in Morgan Hill, located roughly 25 miles south of San Jose, according to the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office.

The gathering was an unsanctioned event promoted on social media that attracted more than 300 people. Initial reports to authorities mentioned intoxicated individuals on the road and someone throwing bottles at vehicles. However, upon arriving, deputies found the situation had escalated into gunfire.

Responding officers provided immediate first aid until emergency medical services arrived, but one person was declared dead at the scene. Several others sustained gunshot wounds and were hospitalized.

Preliminary reports suggest that the suspect used a handgun. No suspects have been publicly identified at this time. Authorities believe the incident was isolated, although they expect the investigation to be extensive.

“This tragic and senseless violence is entirely unacceptable,” stated Santa Clara County Sheriff Robert Jonsen. “Our hearts go out to the victim’s family, those recovering from their injuries, and everyone in our community affected by this traumatic event. We will work tirelessly until those responsible are identified, apprehended, and held fully accountable,” Jonsen added.

Numerous law enforcement agencies responded to the scene, including the Morgan Hill Police Department, Gilroy Police Department, California Highway Patrol, and San Jose Police Department.
