Mass Shooting at Seattle Center Leaves Two Dead and Multiple Injured

Two suspects have been arrested following a mass shooting at the Seattle Center, resulting in two fatalities and several injuries. Seattle’s Mayor, Katie Wilson, described the incident as “an act of horrific violence.”

“Families affected are enduring the most difficult period of their lives,” said Wilson. “It is unimaginable that an event focusing on culture and joy ends in such tragedy. No one should fear being shot at while attending a public gathering.”

The shooting happened during the Bite of Seattle food festival. Police and emergency services arrived shortly after 6 p.m., and the area was quickly cordoned off. Seattle Police advised the public to avoid the vicinity.

“Please avoid the area,” the Seattle Police posted on X.

At the scene, two individuals were declared dead despite life-saving efforts. Three others, including a 2-year-old child, were hospitalized in stable condition. Another victim required serious medical attention, and a fifth person with minor injuries declined hospital transport.

“Our focus is on supporting grieving families, caring for the injured, and providing clear information to the public,” Wilson stated.

Witnesses described chaotic scenes at the festival. Kayla Carris, 22, recounted that attendees began screaming and fleeing as shots rang out. “Everyone was just throwing stuff and running,” she recalled. Todd Behrends, 59, noted hearing multiple gunshots and observed people tripping in the panic.

Following the incident, Harborview Medical Center went into lockdown due to heightened police activity. The Seattle Center Monorail closed operations for the rest of the day as a precautionary measure.
