The U.S. Constitution clearly states that only Congress holds the power to declare war. Despite this, the U.S. has been involved in a conflict aimed initially at dismantling the Iranian government for five months, without any congressional authorization. A significant decision came from Congress last month when bipartisan majorities in both houses voted to end the involvement. However, this constitutional principle seems to have been bypassed in practice, raising questions about the balance of power between governmental branches and how military actions are initiated and sustained in the current political landscape.
