Search Continues for Missing American Woman in Grenada
An American woman is missing while on vacation in Grenada. Elizabeth “Liz” Waddell, 44, from North Carolina, disappeared on Wednesday. She was last seen near Grand Anse Beach in St. George’s, according to the Royal Grenada Police Force.
Family friend Amanda Romano-Harmon noted that Waddell appeared to have gone swimming, as her towel was found on the pier. Waddell had traveled to Grenada with a friend, staying at Hideaway Waterfront Apartments in the Grand Anse area, reported by Grenada Broadcasting Network (GBN).
The Grenadian police urge anyone with information, especially fishermen, boat operators, and residents near the southern coastline, to come forward. In a bulletin, police described Waddell as 5 feet, 5 inches tall with short blond hair.
An extensive search effort has commenced. Police officers, divers, and students from St. George’s University are all involved, confirmed by GBN.
Newsweek reached out to Waddell’s husband, Cailen Waddell, through Facebook. They also contacted the Grenada police and the U.S. State Department seeking comments.
Family Seeks Information
On Friday, Cailen Waddell shared on Facebook that he was en route to Grenada to assist in the search. “The police have been wonderful,” he stated to GBN. “The investigation is ongoing. They have been incredibly communicative and have done everything to help find her.” He described his wife as “a loving, free-spirited person” who easily made friends.

Amanda Romano-Harmon explained that Waddell’s friend was occupied with an online course at their Airbnb while Waddell went swimming. “She had her swimsuit on and went outside,” Romano-Harmon told WRAL. “Their Airbnb had a pool overlooking the bay where Liz was enjoying the view.”
Upon completing the course, her friend noticed Waddell missing. “She saw her towel on the pier,” Romano-Harmon added. “We think she went for a swim.” Hours later, after Waddell, without her phone, failed to return, she was reported missing.
Grenada police request those with any information to contact the South Saint George Police Station or nearby stations. In a statement to ABC News, the U.S. State Department said: “The Trump Administration prioritizes the safety and security of Americans. We know of reports of a missing American in Grenada. The State Department helps families file missing persons reports and explains local procedures. Questions about investigations should go to local Grenadian law enforcement. We have no further comments due to privacy reasons.”
